Jason R. Babcock, Ph.D.
Laboratory ConsultantBefore joining Packer Engineering in 2008, Dr. Jason Babcock worked at Vegawave Systems where he supervised government sponsored research programs and the construction of a class 1000 clean room constructed for research into semiconductor solid state lasers and transistors. Prior to that, he served as Co-founder of Green Light Industries and Chief Chemist of its sister company, Hbar Technologies. At Hbar, he co-invented an electric generator planned for use in automotive applications. The generator runs on domestically available fuel which is recyclable and produces zero emissions. He also developed products ranging from catalytic converters for lawn mowers to fuel elements for space nuclear thermal propulsion systems.
Dr. Babcock also worked 6 years as a Senior Research Scientist at Ultramet, Inc. during which time he secured over $3.5 million in government funding to support his research into advanced materials, coatings, and catalysts for the aerospace industry.
He received his doctorate in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Chicago in 1998, where he discovered and probed the metathesis of carbon dioxide and other heterocumulenes with metal amides, developed a new method for the formation of high molecular weight polystannanes via transition metal catalyzed dehydropolymerization, and investigated the reactivity of tin (II) compounds with molecular oxygen. While a postdoctoral associate studying chemical vapor deposition in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University, he prepared novel inorganic compounds that were used as MOCVD precursors for the growth of various transparent conducting metal oxide and superconducting niobium nitride films.
Dr. Babcock is an expert in the chemical synthesis of a wide range of materials from solid state inorganic materials to multi-step organic compounds, with applications including materials science, catalysis, thin film growth by metal-organic CVD, and soft lithography. He is experienced in numerous analytical techniques, including SEM/EDX, XRD, BET surface area determination, NMR, GPC, HPLC, GC, UV/VIS, fluorimetry, IR, crystallography, DSC, and TGA.
He has made numerous presentations at technical conferences and holds three patents.
