Chirag G. Shah, CWI
Director, Materials and Metallurgical EngineeringMr. Chirag Shah has over ten years of technical experience which includes foundry metallurgy, materials failure investigations and testing. His experience encompasses fatigue and fracture characterization and micro-structural development of ferrous and non-ferrous alloys. He is skilled in embracing the latest metallographic and fractographic techniques for materials investigations. Mr. Shah is responsible for consultation in the areas of failure analysis investigations, reverse engineering and root cause analysis, materials evaluations and testing. Specific areas of expertise include metallurgy, welding and joining, fatigue and fracture analysis of metals, mechanical behavior of materials, testing and metal fabrication.
Prior to joining Packer Engineering, Mr. Shah was actively involved in technical investigations and failure analyses that required the use of many laboratory analysis techniques, including photography, metallography, electron microscopy, non-destructive evaluation and chemical analysis. Mr. Shah envisioned and launched remote scanning electron microscopy (SEM) viewing system, SEM ANYWHERE™ at Exova (formerly Bodycote Testing Group). Mr. Shah provided technical consulting to ferrous, non-ferrous and related material processing industries. During his graduate studies, Mr. Shah gained expertise on GLEEBLE thermo mechanical simulator, mathematical analysis techniques, data mining and metallurgical process modeling.
Mr. Shah is an AWS certified welding inspector and has presented his work at professional society conferences. He is an active member of the ASM Chicago Regional Chapter executive committee since 2005 and was the Chapter Chair for 2010-2011. He is also a member of the ASM Failure Analysis Committee and ASM Emerging Professional Committee.
