Craig L. Jensen, Ph.D., P.E.
DirectorDr. Jensen joined Packer Engineering after more than eighteen years at the Alcoa Technical Center. At Alcoa, Dr. Jensen was the primary contact for failure analysis and microstructural characterization. He also participated in numerous product, process and alloy development programs involving aluminum and non-aluminum alloys. His work enabled Alcoa's operating locations and their customers to achieve higher productivity and reduce costs in their operations.
Prior to joining Alcoa, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota where he taught courses in physical metallurgy, thermodynamics and transport phenomena. His areas of research included the transport of hydrogen isotopes in metals and the effects of hydrogen on the physical and mechanical properties of Ti alloys.
Dr. Jensen has significant experience using optical and electron microscopy, corrosion testing and other destructive and nondestructive techniques to understand the performance of a wide range of materials and products. In additional to work on heat-treatable and non heat- treatable aluminum products, Dr. Jensen has experience in thin film deposition and characterization. He has participated in failure analysis of process equipment which is used in various aspects of aluminum production and fabrication.
Dr. Jensen also has substantial experience in investigating metallurgical failures in lifting equipment, structures, chemical process equipment, manufacturing equipment, piping, vehicles, surface coating processes, hand and power tools, sporting equipment, and medical implants. In addition, Dr. Jensen has experience in intellectual property matters.
Dr. Jensen is a licensed professional engineer in the State of Illinois and has authored several publications. He has been awarded six U.S. patents.
