Edward M. Caulfield, Ph.D., P.E.

President & Chief Technical Officer

Dr. Caulfield's practice combines an understanding of both metallurgical principles, mechanical behavior of materials, and mechanical engineering, and applies this combination to design review and evaluation, failure analysis, accident investigation and reconstruction, and testing. His studies of advanced dynamics, fatigue, fracture mechanics, stress analysis and the mechanical behavior of fiber-reinforced composites over wide temperature ranges enable him to consult with a wide range of industrial clients from large off-highway and farm machinery and industrial equipment manufacturers, to automobile makers and material processors.

Dr. Caulfield received his Doctorate in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana in 1978. He is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Illinois and Florida.

Prior to joining Packer Engineering in 1979, Dr. Caulfield was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Illinois. While at the University of Illinois, he taught courses in dynamics, vibration, material science and design of machinery.

Dr. Caulfield has presented many seminars on "Fundamentals of Modern Fatigue Analysis" to audiences exhibiting a wide range of design interests. He has broad experience in the area of closed-loop and full-scale mechanical testing employing anthropomorphic dummies to simulate and measure occupant impact response. Dr. Caulfield is a member of Sigma Xi (Scientific Honorary Society) and has published and/or presented over 20 technical papers.

Dr. Caulfield has investigated a wide range of accidents ranging from the Hyatt walkway collapse in Kansas City, to the American DC-10 crash at O\'Hare International Airport. He has investigated marine, numerous forklift, automotive and machinery accidents in the United States and abroad.
