Mr. Laun consults in numerous areas of electrical and electronic failure analysis, industrial support, insurance & legal support, and industrial/commercial accident and explosion investigations. Included in his areas of expertise are antennas and electromagnetics, signal interference and cancellation, electronic and semiconductor materials, cleanrooms and semiconductor processing, vacuum systems, epitaxial growth, surface analytical techniques (SIMS, Auger, X-Ray, etc.), as well as electric power distribution systems, transformers, cabling, circuit breakers, etc.  Mr. Laun’s training includes arson investigation work.

Prior to joining Packer Engineering, Mr. Laun was Sr. Engineer for Amset, Inc., performing forensics engineering and related support for the insurance and legal communities.  The work he performed included electrical and electronic systems and equipment, HVAC, heavy equipment, computers & data, materials and chemical, telephones, boiler & machinery, and many other types of equipment.  He has assisted insurance adjusters & legal representatives to the multi-million dollar level.  Mr. Laun also provided extensive materials and chemical expertise for restoration services due to loss related exposure (fire, smoke, water, etc.) on technical equipment.

Prior to Amset, Mr. Laun had been involved with startup companies, including Genesis Magnetics, to develop patents involved with Electromagnetic interference and signal cancellation, as well as Bandgap Technology Corporation and Gould Research for specialty semiconductors and techniques in III-V materials.

Mr. Laun also has 30 years experience in management of rental properties and building maintenance including most areas of construction.  He has knowledge and experience with electrical codes, electrical and building inspections, general contracting, and construction techniques.

Mr. Laun is licensed as a Professional Engineer in the states of Illinois, Florida, Ohio and West Virginia.  He also holds a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator certification (CFEI) and is 40-hour HAZWOPER Certified.
