Patrick O'Leary
Staff Consultant, Mechanical EngineeringSince joining Packer Engineering in 2006, Mr. O'Leary has been responsible for designing and conducting laboratory testing, failure analysis, accident investigation and reconstruction, patent analysis as well as local business development. His mechanical and metallurgical investigations have included automotive accidents (roll over, vehicle collision and fire) as well as the failure analysis mechanical components. Patent analysis work has included the study of golf ball properties and rifle cartridges. He has also designed, constructed and supervised several customized tests related to these investigations.
His undergraduate studies were focused on traditional metallurgical and materials engineering, as well as mechanical engineering. His course work included an emphasis in ferrous metallurgy, mechanical metallurgy, manufacturing processes, design of machine elements, viscous flow, and system heat transfer and thermodynamics.
Prior to joining Packer Engineering full time, Mr. O'Leary spent two and a half years at A. Finkl & Sons. His work there involved the application of nondestructive testing and destructive testing methodologies for high strength steels for industrial and military purposes. He then spent two years working as an intern at Packer Engineering. His work consisted of failure analysis, accident investigation and reconstruction, materials evaluation and application, and the analysis and testing of mechanical systems.
