Scott M. Erdman
Staff Consultant IIMr. Erdman is involved in the areas of failure analysis, accident investigation and reconstruction, materials evaluation and application, and the analysis and testing of mechanical systems.
His undergraduate studies were focused on traditional metallurgical and materials engineering, as well as mechanical engineering. His course work included an emphasis in ferrous metallurgy, mechanical metallurgy, manufacturing processes, design of machine elements, viscous flow, and system heat transfer and thermodynamics.
Prior to joining Packer Engineering, Mr. Erdman spent five years at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL). His work there involved the application and development of Nondestructive Testing (NDT) methodologies for ceramic and ceramic matrix composite (CMC) components for aerospace applications. Although Mr. Erdman worked on various NDT techniques, he concentrated on the pulsed thermal diffusivity imaging method. Mr. Erdman contributed to several technical papers and presentations, co-authored a patent regarding a method for normal crack detection, and presented his work at professional society conferences.
